Why Labrador Retrievers Make Good Therapy Dogs Labrador Retriever:

Therapy dogs are dogs that provide affection and comfort to people in hospitals, old age homes, schools or any stressful situation such as disaster areas.

This dog’s primary job is to allow people that need love or a calming influence to make physical contact with it and to enjoy that contact.

Dementia:

Dementia is a term used to describe various different brain disorders that have in common a loss of brain function that is usually progressive and eventually severe.

There are over 100 different types of dementia. The most common are Alzheimer’s disease, vascular dementia and dementia with Lewy bodies.

Musikfest:

Although Musikfest doesn’t take place within Montgomery County, the drive isn’t too bad, and is well worth it for an event of this magnitude.  For those who have never heard of Musikfest, it’s an annual 10 day festival held in down-town Bethlehem.  The festival literally takes over the town and includes many big time music acts, all types of food, and plenty of fun.  This year some of the more notable bands performing include Stone Temple Pilots, Maroon 5, Steve Miller Band, Steely Dan, and many more.

Dogs that are used for this purpose need to have a friendly calm loving temperament. This is what makes the Lab an ideal candidate. They are by no means the only breed used, but they are among the most popular.
