Blue Paul Terrier is an extinct breed of dog. The Blue Paul Terrier resembled contemporary pit dogs. They had a smooth coat and were powerfully built. They had a slight dip between the eyes, which were dark hazel and not sunken, prominent, nor showing haw. The ears were small, thin, set on high, and invariably cropped, and the face was not wrinkled. The eyebrows contracted or knit. The facial expression of the Blue Paul has never been seen in any other breed and can frequently be recognized in mixed-breed dogs.

Strong young Blue Paul Terrier dog:

The body was round and well ribbed up, its back short, broad, and muscular but not roached, and its chest deep and wide. The tail was set low and devoid of fringe, rather drooping and never rising above the back. The dog stood straight and firmly on its legs. Its forelegs were stout and muscular, showing no curve. The hind legs were very thick and strong, with well-developed muscles. The colour was dark blue as can be seen in Greyhounds; however, they sometimes produced brindles or reds, which were known as red smuts in Scotland. The Staffordshire Bull Terrier is a member of the Terrier group and it’s beleived they share a common ancestory with the other bull breeds of the Mastif-like “Old-Fasioned Bulldog”.  This was then crossed with the “Manchester Terrier” and the now-extinct “English White Terrier” to Produce the Bull & Terrier”.

New Blue Paul Terrier:

Next, some of these Bull & Terriers were mixed further with Dalmations, Greyhound, Spannish Pointer, Foxhound & Borzoi to produce the White Cavalier (now Bull-Terrier) while the other variation was crossed with other breeds such as the now extict “Blue Paul” which is where a small percentage of Staffs get the rarer blue coat from.

Latest Blue Paul Terrier:

heir long line of ancestors were bred from the mid 16thCentury for everything from Bull Baiting, Rat-pitting, Hunting and even Sheep Hearding; today they are primarily human companions or used for activities such agility shows and even weight pulling. The breed was only recognised by the UKKC in 1935 in England (1974 in the USA), originally to be classified as a “Bull Terrier” but the name was taken instead by it’s cousin (the other Bull & Terrier previously known as the “White Chavalier Bull & Terrier”).
