New Dutch Shepherd Dogs:
The Dutch Shepherd was used on farms to herd and guard sheep. Towards the end of the 1800s, the Dutch Shepherd breed was almost extinct. The Dutch formed the first Dutch Shepherd club in 1898 to increase the breed’s population. At this point, the Dutch Shepherd became a family pet and continued to do some work activities. The Dutch Shepherd today is used for police work, guarding, rescues, herding, and as a family pet.

Selection and Training of Dutch Shepherds:
Command Control K-9 only purchases and trains the top 1% of Dutch Shepherds, the smartest and best of the breed. We buy from owners, not wholesalers, who have correctly socialized their dog’s right from puppy hood. These animals have received daily training that includes: obedience, protection, agility, article retrieval, and scent tracking.
And our personal protection dogs can be trained to respond to commands in the language of your choice plus perform many other customized protection skills. This is where the intelligence and trainability of Dutch Shepherds really shows itself!
The Dutch Shepherd comes in three varieties: long-haired (long, straight, flat and harsh), short-haired (fine and dense) and wire-haired (medium length and wiry). Show dogs should not display much white on their chest and feet. Although the coat types vary, the color possibilities remain the same for each: various shades of brindle, including gray, yellow, silver, red or gold brindle, and blue. The short-haired variety is very widespread in Holland, while the wire-haired is less common and the long-haired is very rare. The body is muscular and symmetrical. The muzzle is long and the teeth are strong and regular. The eyes are dark and slightly slanting and the relatively small ears are stiffly erect. The tail is slightly curved. The chest and belly are deep and not too drawn up. The feet are relatively small and do not have dewclaws. The toes are well arched. The nails and pads are black. Protective hair grows between the toes.
