Origin:
The Poodle is believed to originate in Germany. It is an old breed. The Poodle descended from Asian herding dogs and which were brought to Europe by the Goths, a federation of German tribes. The word “Pudel” means “to splash in water” in German. Originally The Poodle was known as a German Water Dog. Later Poodles became popular in France and is now considered the national dog of France. Several other European countries has also claimed the Poodle as their own breed. The Poodle is a very versatile breed. During their long history they were retrievers of waterfowl, scented out truffles, were circus dogs and pets of royal households in France.
Appearance:
The poodle is an elegant, medium to large-sized dog, well-proportioned with a profuse wiry curly coat. The head and muzzle are long. There are the Standard Poodle, the Miniature Poodle, the Toy Poodle.Poodles come in many colors including black, blue/charcoal, white, red, apricot, silver, and brown. They also appear in parti-color, or multi-colors. The coat doesn’t shed. Height of the Standard Poodle is over 15 inches at the highest point of the shoulders, the Miniature Poodle is 15 inches or under, the Toy Poodle is 10 inches or under. Care The coat needs a lot of care. Regular brushing and combing is an absolute must to avoid tangles. Poodles are usually trimmed. The trimming requires certain skills and it is not cheap one. There are four Poodles “haircuts”: Puppy, sporting, English saddle, or continental.
