The oval eyes are large and dark. The thin, long, oval, hair-covered ears reach almost to the tip of the nose. The tail is medium in length, set high and carried like a saber well covered with hair. Dewclaws are sometimes removed. The long, outer coat is harsh to the touch with a thick short undercoat. The dog has shaggy eyebrows, beard and mustache. Description: The Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen is a short and stocky dog. They stand 13-15 inches high and weigh between 31 and 40 pounds, there is little sizing difference between the male dog and the female bitch. They ar a little wide in body, with well muscled hindquarters. They have a fairly short but shaggy coat, with their diskette ears and a moustache like nose appearance. They have a look somewhere between the total ruffian and a dog version of Oliver twist. Their head and facial hair gives them a somewhat soulful expression.

Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen History:

Dating back to the sixteenth century in Europe, the Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen obtained its name from being a canine that was low to the ground. The Vendeen portion of their name was derived simply from where they were discovered in Vendeen, France. The town of Vendeen is well known for its rugged terrain, making it not an ideal place for just any old canine to hunt and climb through. The Petit Basset was just the trailing dog that could handle these types of hunting textures to be an excellent choice for a companion dog for all hunters. In the eighteenth century, the Petit Basset became a popular choice for being a show dog in the United Kingdom. It has continued to be a dog that is bred all over France well into the middle of the 1900′s. It also goes by the name of Little Griffon Vendeen Basset as well. The breed finally got their recognition by the AKC in the late 1900′s around 1990.

While many assume the Petit Basset Griffon is a canine that bodes a wire fur coat requiring much grooming, it actually is not. New Grand Anglo-Français Blanc et Noir:

The Francais Blanc et Noir is descended from the Hound of Saintonge, whose origins are unclear. While it is no relation to the Bloodhound, it is probably a distant cognate of the 16th century white Greffier. The present type first appeared in the second half of the 19th century, but was later crossbred with the Poitevin and the Gascon Saintongeois. The first standard was published in 1957.

Grand Anglo-Français Blanc et Noir SIZE:

The Anglos-Francais comes in three sizes. There is the Grand Anglos-Francais which weighs between 65 and 75 pounds and stand 24 to 27 inches. These dogs were a result of crossing large French hounds and the English Foxhound. The Anglo-Francais de Moyen Venerie is slightly smaller weighing 45 to 55 pounds and is 20 inches. It is the result of crossing Harriers and the medium-sized French hounds. The smallest of the Anglos-francaises is the Anglo-Francais de Petite Venerie. It comes from the crossing of the beagle and smaller French hounds. This dog is 35 to 44 pounds and is 16 to 18 inches tall.

New Gordon Setter:

A good-sized, sturdily built, black and tan dog, Gordon Setters are well muscled, with plenty of bone and substance. The Gordon Setter is a tireless worker and enjoys abundant exercise and attention. They are a better watch dog than the other setters, making them a loyal and protective pet. They are lovable, friendly, intelligent dogs who are sensitive and gentle. They are, however, slower and heavier boned than the rest of the setter family. But what Gordon Setters lack in speed, they certainly make up for in protection and stamina. Gordon Setters are more suspicious of strangers, and better at guarding than other setters. They also have great endurance, able to go longer without water and work harder in intense heat, more so than their other setter relatives. Gordon Setter History:

There have existed Black and Tan Setters in Scotland long before Gordon Setters were developed in the 1700s. It is believed they existed there for at least 350 years before that. Alexander, the fourth Duke of Richmond and Gordon in Scotland, is credited with the development of this breed. He developed the breed at his home estate in Banffshire, Scotland. He took the Black and Tan Setter, Scotland’s only gundog, and in the 1770s bred it with Bloodhound and possibly Collie. They were bred to be a sportsman’s dog that would have great stamina, as well as excellent scenting abilities. The first import to the United States was by George Blunt and Daniel Webster in 1842. The Gordon Setter went on to be exhibited at the very first dog show in Newcastle Town Hall, England, on June 28th, 1859. The winner of the setters was a Gordon Setter named “Dandy” owned by their own pointer judge. Although slower and less trusting of strangers, the Gordon’s abilities of endurance outshined the other setters. They became a favorite of hunters who wanted more to fill their game bags than to get birds quickly. The Gordon Setter could go longer without water, as well as work better in the heat than other setters. They also served well as guard dogs and protector’s of their master’s estates. An unknown author in the 1700s described the Gordon Setters abilities: “The Gordon Castle Setters are as a rule easy to break and naturally back well. They are not fast dogs but they have good staying powers and can keep on steadily from morning until night. Their noses are first class and they seldom make a false point or what is called at field trials a sensational stand…When they stand you may be sure there are birds.” Today there are more Gordon Setters in America than in Britain, which is sometimes credited as the place of development for this breed.

Black Gordon Setter:

The gordon setter puppies training will vary from one puppy to the next. The breed has a short back, well sprung ribs, a short tail, and a heavy and finely chiseled head, with intelligent, noble, and dignified expression and with no signs of shyness. The Gordon Setter is part of the same family that includes the English Setter and Irish Setter. Its utility rests in its formidable talents hunting fowl and wild birds. Like a lot of breeds, it had its origins in Scotland. It first came about in the 17th century, but it was made popular by Duke Alexander IV in the 18th century. Gordon Setter Information:

The Gordon Setter’s lineage dates back to at least 1620. The breed was very popular among hunters of Scotland for decades. Glen of Imaal Terrier Dog Breed Origins and History:
Their name is directly from the Glen (small village) of Imaal in the county of Wicklow, Ireland. Developed around the same time though separately, the Glen of Imaal and it’s Irish brethren, the Soft Coated Wheaten, the Irish and the Kerry Blue Terrier were created to rid farms and homes of common pests. They also were made to hunt fox and badger (which they are well known for). The breed stayed in relative obscurity, known only to those that had and loved them and kept the breed in their families for generations. It wasn’t until dog shows began in the area that the dog started to receive recognition. They received Irish Kennel Club recognition in 1934.

Glen of Imaal Terrier Dog Breed Appearance:
Glen of Imaal Terrier puppies show right off the bat that, though medium in size the Imaal has a stocky build. They have a body like that of the Welsh Corgi, but a face like that of a shortened traditional Irish Terrier. They have broad skulls with a strong muzzle that tapers towards their black nose. (Deutscher Drahthaariger Vorstehhund) (Drahthaar) (Germen Wirehaired Pointing Dog)The German Wirehaired Pointer is a large dog with many cute and unique features.  A square head is the beginning of this wonderful breed and leads to their long muzzle which ends with a large reddish-brown colored nose.  From their muzzle, wiry hair feathers out like a short beard. Sitting on top of their small head are two long, floppy ears.  A long neck leads to their semi-broad shoulders.  Long skinny legs lead from their thin body to rabbit-like feet.  The fur covering their body is, as the name suggests, wiry and comes in silver or white with red or brown markings.

Note, a GWP is not a Drahthaar. While it evolved from common ancestry lines, the two breeds are now completely distinctive (since 1902). They have different breeding standards. Drahthaars are also required to pass performance testing.
